José Neves is a renowned Portuguese architect whose work masterfully balances tradition and modernity. Jose Neves follows follows Oana Bogdan, Martin Jančok, Anne Lacaton and Francesca Torzo as BigMat International Architecture Award members of the 2025 Jury.

José Neves (Lisbon, 1963) graduated from Faculty of Architecture of the Technical University of Lisbon in 1986. He worked with Duarte Cabral de Mello and Maria Manuel Godinho de Almeida from 1986 until 1990 and participated in several projects with Vítor Figueiredo. In 1991 he opened his own practice, in Lisbon.

He teaches architecture in parallel with his practice since 1988 and is currently a visiting professor at Iscte – University Institute of Lisbon.

His work has been distinguished with the AICA Award from the Portuguese section of the International Association of Art Critics in 2014, the SECIL Architecture Award in 2012 and the VALMOR Prize in 2011.
