Today we rediscover one of the BigMat ’19 finalists for Spain, Ramos Carrión Theatre in Zamora, a significant intervention on a modernist building dated from 1916, creating a new plaza towards the Duero River.
Arctic Nordic Alpine” is dedicated to contemporary architecture in vulnerable landscapes, focussing on the influence interventions could have on regions with extreme climatic conditions.
Another example of respectful work in historic context by Lisbon architect Inês Lobo, Jury member of the BigMat ’21 International Architectural Award, the Luís da Silva Ribeiro Public Library is located in an annex of the Silveira e Paulo Palace in Angra do Heroismo, Azores.
“Flying on the raven’s wing” is a cross-disciplinary exhibition appropriating ASIAT in Vilvoorde as a site of new promises. The artistic interventions hover between autonomous artworks, inventive dancefloors, collaborative commissions and circular architecture.
The selected projects from the over 1000 entries submitted in this year’s edition will be revealed next September. The BigMat ’21 Jury Meeting took place on the 9th of July at the Technical University of Madrid – School of Architecture.
