“Geografias Construídas. Paulo Mendes da Rocha”
May 26, 2023 – February 25, 2024
Casa da Arquitectura
Av. Menéres 456, 4450-189 Matosinhos
Covering seven decades of professional activity, the exhibition by Cohen and Grossman, which will occupy the institution’s largest exhibition space, focuses on the architect’s work from the immense archive delivered to Casa da Arquitectura in 2020. Furtado e Moreira, set up in the Casa’s Gallery, offers visitors the opportunity to have a more intimate experience with the architect, allowing them to hear his worldview and reflections on themes that interested him and that help explain his work.
Spanning seven decades of activity, the immense work of Paulo Mendes da Rocha will be revealed in the Exhibition “Constructed Geographies: Paulo Mendes da Rocha” with an unprecedented breadth extracted from the immense collection delivered to Casa da Arquitectura. Shown in the Exhibition Hall of Casa da Arquitectura, the exhibition does more than follow the unidirectional thread of his biography, or focus on the typologies of his work: the structure of the exhibition will be based on the expanding geographies of the buildings and projects designed by Paulo Mendes da Rocha with his partners and colleagues, between the years 1960 to 2010.
“Constructed Geographies: Paulo Mendes da Rocha” opens to the public accompanied by the “Paulo” Exhibition at the Casa Gallery. With the exhibitions, a program of activities curated by the architect Nuno Sampaio, Executive Director and General Commissioner of CA, and the architect Catherine Otondo, responsible for organizing the Paulo Mendes da Rocha collection, is launched.
