“Antonio Palacios: The Whisper of History, The Noise of Time”
September 29, 2023 – January 12, 2024
C/ de Hortaleza, 63, Madrid
In the upcoming year 2024, it will mark the 150th anniversary of the birth of the architect Antonio Palacios Ramilo in O Porriño. He is one of the most prominent architects in the history of architecture in Spain.
To celebrate this occasion, the City of Madrid, the Official College of Architects of Madrid, and the COAM Architecture Foundation have agreed to jointly organize the “Year of Antonio Palacios.” It will commence in October 2023 and conclude one year later in the autumn, with two separate exhibitions. Throughout the year, various activities are planned to provide the city with a deep and updated understanding of what Antonio Palacios represented as a bridge between the eclecticism of the 19th century and the modernity of the 20th century, connecting the architecture and the city of the past with those of the future.
During the XX Architecture Week, the COAM will host the exhibition “Antonio Palacios: The Whisper of History, the Noise of Time,” curated by José Luis Varela Alén and Ricardo Sánchez Lampreave. This exhibition will feature the works and projects of Antonio Palacios outside of Madrid, with a significant focus on Galicia.
The exhibition will be accompanied by the publication of a catalog, edited by the curators and produced by Gráfica Futura. This catalog will be the first volume of a joint work with the City Council. The curation of the exhibition and catalog for the City Council has been entrusted to Javier Mosteiro and Julián García.
Furthermore, three roundtable discussions will be held during the autumn of 2023, and several guided visits to the exhibition will be organized.
